scale calibration weights

I know some of you use FX120i scales or equivalent. I was a bit surprised to find it didn't come with a calibration weight. No problem I thought, I'll just buy a set. Now I'm confused. I see sets for as little as $6 to over $100. Obviously there is a difference in accuracy in these weights. What I'm looking for is an accurate set that won't break the bank. What do y'all use?

Obviously you didn't bother to read my post. I asked which one to buy not where to buy them. I figured that part out on my own.

I use the 100 gram certified check weight that came with my scale. 100 grams is roughly 1543 grains. You should check the limit on your scale before picking particular weight. In the end, the size of the calibration weight probably doesn't matter, as long as it's less than the max allowed for your scale. 25 or 50 grams would probably do the trick, if your scale supports those weights.

Usually a new certified weight will be expensive. You can buy a used one on ebay a lot cheaper. It doesn't matter if its off a little, the amount would be small, but as long as you use the same one the calibration will be the same. Jay is right you should get one that fits your scale and I would like it not to be real small. Matt

I think Eddie may have been trying to show you where you could compare various types of weights - and that site has everything you need to make your choice.
I use class 6 weights for reloading. I don't see any reason to spend a grand on a set of weights for weighing reloading components unless I'm trying to put the bullet into stationary lunar orbit. ;)

I don't claim to have all the right opinions, but following is my take on weights;

My two balances both have 0.001g accuracy. I am personally not interested in that kind of absolute accuracy, but I am VERY concerned with consistency! Both my scales call for one weight for full scale calibration and another one, usually half the other weight, for calibrating linearity. I bought medium specified weights and was careful to make sure the ratio of the two weights was on. Actually, I got two identical weights that are 1/2 the maximum for full scale caliberation and compared them and sanded a bit off the base of the heavier one till they were both identical. It took very fine paper! Now, I can calibrate the balances to specified full scale and linearity, but absolute accuracy may be a tad off. I don't care as when I weigh a 33.5gn charge, I don't care if it is 33.4, as long as every charge is within one granule!

I also have a set of very small weights in 1 gn, 2gn, 5gn, 10 gn and 20 gn sizes so I can check if the balance reads these charge size weights correctly.

Call Cambridge and order there 50 gram weight. It is about $20 or $25. It comes in a nice little plastic holder so it doesn't get dirty.

Some of the really expensive ones come with a certification.
