Save that brass

So, I was offered about 120 Lake City match 68 cases, for free, only down side the case mouths are badly abused.....

So after looking at the cases for a bit, I tried one in my full leanth resized, it worked, but was very hard to reform, so after a cup of coffee, I had an idea, and out to my lathe I went, 1 1/28 bolt, one 5/16 shoulder bolt, and I started to spin up a neck sizer button with a taper on the end....I did turn the button a little undersize,so I can run them back threw the die and resize after I "presize" and get the case mouths round again

So a little lube , and presto, works perfectly!

After "presize" I deburred the case mouths, resized with factory resizer button, and the bolt on my 03a3 closes just perfectly on the brass!

Great job. I use an old 50bmg fmj pulled bullet to round them out by hand. Only takes a second then thru the die and im back in business again. My cle service rifle upper dents every case mouth it ejects

WillyTP,

I had looked at those.....but then my frugal (see cheap and dirty) mentality took over, and off to my south bend lathe I went....

I noticed the price increase, I believe I got change back from a 10 dollar bill when I got mine. But I love the down home engineering!

Being bounced around during ejection from an M1. No biggie to the old school gas gunners. Just expand them and run ‘em through a regular die. Rinse and repeat.

This brass, was either resized then treated so poorly, or is new brass that was treated so poorly, when I run it in my dies, I feel no resistance on the lever, li,e fire brass has....plus there are no primmers in the brass.......

But yes, old school gas gun guys, are used to brass that takes some punishment......

with my Fal they tend to ding up all the same, yours has them all over, with no primers how clean are the pockets and inside the case, I'm no pro.

I guess you don't have any Lee dies.

I have never messed with brass that dinged up but, if I was working on them I think I probably would have annealed them first.

Velcro on the deflector will solve that.

If the dents are further down the casing well below the shoulder, then it's hitting the rear of the port and demands a different solution.
