Savage

Somebody said a few yrs ago Savage has never won anything in 1000yd comp, so I was scanning the results looking for trends and found the result. I also noticed Leupold scopes dominated for a long time, But smallest group of the day is a win

I remember the 50’s and 60’s Drag Racing. ”Run what You Brung”. And NASCAR. “Find somebody to race with”. Don Garlets stayed on top for decades with what He called “Swamp Engineering”. And there was Art Arfonds, Land Speed Record, built in His back yard.

If You start at the bottom, You’ll know what changes worked on the way up ;)

Below is one...I know of more. Who the heck is "somebody" anyway?

OH WAIT! Now I remember Brandon Somebody...duh

"If you start at the bottom, you’ll know what changes worked on the way up." Rat Rifle, 2022.

Profoundly profound and truly true. Great saying, sir, and I'm gonna use that one again, with the proper provenance given, of course.

I got nothing against Savages. I even know some people that own some....even tho' now I spell it O-r-i-g-i-n...

j/k of course. I always root for the underdog. Savages and their nuts have always been great for us Tinkerers Without A Lathe....

So if a shooter that loaded his ammo and shoot a gun built off a ole clunky Savage action beat another shooter that was shooting a custom built gun using a custom built action was it because he was a better shooter? asking for a friend
I laughed and shook his hand, a long long time ago

Oh No ! It was LUCK !

What else could it be ???? ;)

While the investigative team is fresh with lots of Savage related info, Has anyone found a good trigger say 2oz or less?
Nope, not at the moment. And I’ve pretty much tried them all. We’re hopefully waiting to see what Trigger Tech comes up with, but ?? At the moment, My favorite is in My Light Gun, a Rifle Basics Savage II, set at a crisp, no creep, 4 ounces. I dare not change anything about it, for fear I might not get it back where it was if it doesn’t work.

I have one with a 2 oz. trigger, made by and installed by Fred Moreo (Sharpshooters supply) unfortunately he no longer makes them. I also have an accu trigger at 7 oz., but the rest of mine are clunkers, but they are not competition guns either.

The Pennsylvania 1000 yd benchrest club has been holding matches since 1967, they hold 10 matches each year. And you found that Savage rifles won small group on one of those days. If you are trying to convince me to pick something else to build my nest 1000yd rifle on, you just did.
