Savage Target Action vs Varmint Action

My shooting buddy is planning a custom Savage build. He can purchase a Savage target action that has been milled to accept a box magazine for about $750. Or he can buy a complete Stealth rifle (including the chassis stock) for a few hundred more. The Savage Stealth utilizes the Varmint action that is cut away over the top of the bolt. My understanding is that the Target action is stiffer and therefore more accurate, but I’m not sure how much difference there is in performance, especially after a good part of the bottom has been milled out. Does anyone have experience comparing these two actions?

Most of my replies will be from work about 5-6 yrs ago . Target action = larger threads . Target action = red blade target trigger. Target action may be more square especially compared to the warped varmit action I last was asked to check BUT rigidity will not influence your accuracy UNLESS all other factors are identical and YOUR skills could out shoot the rifle .
I prefered the target now I just go for the Remington 783 and prefer the current batch and trigger in the 783 compared to either Savage

Savage has and has had so many variations in actions I doubt if anyone including Savage can keep track of them. I do know this that the genuine precision target actions were all solid bottom single shots three screws holding the action to the stock. They are all large shank, come in 3 configurations right bolt right port, right bolt left port, and right bolt dual port the later having a different screw spacing. They come with the red blade target accu trigger and in 375 or 473 bolt face. I know they also offered complete rifles using this action. Then they offed complete rifles with with a target action with mag cuts which really get confusing.

I have both plus a bunch of others and without a doubt the model 12 varmint single shot is hands down the better of the two.
Both my PTA and my model 12 are T & T by SSS ( Fred Morea) and the 12 has a 3 oz. trigger the PTA has been adj. to 6 oz..
With the 12 pre fits are easier to find on the shelf ( small shank ), stocks are easier to find also( 2 screw).
I know I didn't actually answer you but my opinion based on owning lots of Savages, and now thinking of reducing the volume in the safe and going with just a couple of customs.
Go to www.savageshooters.com and ask the same question you will get several different answers.

I bought the target action last year for $512. That $700 figure seems a little high.
