Savage Shooters!

Im shooting a Savage Target Action and with a previous load I did the action screw torquing to get it shooting nice. But i have recently switched loads I will be doing some seating depth testing with limited rounds loaded. I was wondering if anyone has seen advantages to re-torquing the action screws with different loads. Thanks for any help.

I am not sure if torquing with different loads will affect accuracy but there is a thread maybe on Savage Shooters that describe how to tune your action for maximum accuracy by the way the action screws are torqued. I will try and locate it.

I have read and followed those instructions, which worked great. I was just wondering if there would be much benefit in going through the extra 20 or more shots to retest the torque setting with the new load.

I would shoot it first and if it groups well I would leave it alone. It's been my experience that once you find the torque setting the rifle likes it seems to be that same setting no matter what changes. If the rifle didn't group the way you would like then I would look at going back through the load development process. Up to and including torque the action again. Just out of curiosity why did you switch loads? Good luck, Brian Brown.

The advice I was given was to find a torque setting that worked and then duplicate it always. Consistency is the most determinate baseline equipment wise.

Ok I was kind of thinking the torque settings would be a gun thing and not a load thing, we'll see.

I switched loads because i started out with Nosler Custom Competitions, which worked well, but I bought an old box of 250 from someone on this forum. Once I got the box I noticed 20-30% of the hollow points had corn cob media stuffed into them. Instead of complaining to the person i bought them from I went strait to Nosler and once I confirmed the lot# they sent me a new box of 250, so I got 500 bullets for $50. I was also shooting R19 with them, that seemed excesively dirty. So late in the season I switched to 140gr Amaxs and H4831, burnes much cleaner, and at a light load of 46.5 gr ive gotten .5" at 300 yards and a couple that turned up less then half that. The gun has a higher node that didnt show quite as good of accuracy but I havent played with seating depth. So I will be shooting 47.8gr H4831. This is all with a 260AI also.
