Savage Scope Base choices

I'm looking at the two Bench-Source scope bases being offered for the Savage target action rifles; the Davidson Dovetail Base and the Bench-Source version of the Picatinny Rail. Are there any advantages to either one? In either cawe, plan on using the +20 MOA version for long range target use. Thanks for your comments.

I bought the Bench-Source 20 MOA Davidson style base, and I felt it was too high. Even with low rings the scope was too high. I later replaced it with a Ken Farrell base and rings and I am much happier with it. Also, I was using this on a Savage F-Class in 6BR and with my NF BR scope I was at the top of the adjustment range at 1,000 yards. I wanted more room so when I got the Farrell base I opted for 30 MOA.

Wanna buy my 20 MOA Davidson base and/or Kelbly rings? I am not using them and could make it a deal for you.

David, I went to using EGW 20moa aluminum picatinny bases on both my 700's and Savage target actions and I can't tell any difference in their performance from the higher priced Badgers Ordnance bases that I have on some of my other rifles. My EGW's have withstood the vigor's of over 1500 rounds fired in the prairie dogs towns over the past few years. Better yet you can purchase three EGW bases for the cost of one Badger Ordnance.

Morpheus, how much clearance did your NF have bell to rifle? I've ordered the Sightron 10x50 which has a 60MM bell, a little larger than the NF,56MM?). I'm also shooting the Fclass 6mmBR.

I don't remember exactly, but it was between 1/2 to 3/4 inch. Maybe this isn't that bad, but for me, I couldn't get the cheek weld I wanted. My other rifle has a McMillan F-Class stock with an adjustable cheekpiece, unlike the OE Savage stock) so maybe I was expecting too much. If the Savage OE stock had an adjustable cheekpiece, it would have been fine.

I have Farrell rings and piccy mount on my Savage LRPV and very happy with it. Best price I found was with Sharpshooter Supply. The Badger Supply set up is similar and just as good.
