Savage!! Right Bolt to Left Bolt??

I have seen on a gunsmiths website where they offer switching your savage action from a Right bolt to a Left Bolt? Can this even actually be done? I've got a cpl of Savages and it would be nice to have them left Bolt, but I'm a little reluctant to try it. You don't hear about this being done so....Thought I'd ask.

Thanks for any Insight!!!

Seems like you wouldn't be left with much action. It would also be hard to believe it would be worth the money to have it done instead of just buying a left bolt action.

I believe Fred at SSS does this modification, probably on the target actions the most I would assume since you cant get it in a lefty. The right bolt handle cutout is welded up,then re machined into the left side of the tang. I think the cam surfaces on the action lugs needs machined for the left hand setup as well, then just use the left bolt body, handle and rear baffle with a right hand bolthead. If it was a standard action it would basically be the same as a Striker action.

If Fred @ SSS is doing the work you'll get a top notch product. Though you may have to be VERY patient. Can't speak for others. Have you considered getting a Striker action & building a rifle on it. Might be cheaper in the long run since you could sell the R/H action to recoup some of expenses. Just a thought

A Striker makes a great left hand rifle. I did it in order to have a left hand 204. It shoots great!
