Savage question, opening up a bolt head diameter

Admission, asking shows my newbi-ness and general lack of ejection system knowledge

223 bolt face to a .224wby is the goal.

even with reshaping the ejector, would it work or even feasible ?

Install a new bolt head of the right size, pretty easy if you follow the instructions.

Get with N. Lambeth (sponsor here) or Sharp Shooter Supply. The bolt head will be a custom job.....opened up from a .378" bolt face. Not sure what you mean by re-shaping the ejector though.

terminology error... sorry. newbie. I would imagine the extractor would have to be modified to fit/work, and from looking at a bolt head , really does not seem 100% feasible. ejector pin placement if left alone might not work well either. It is something I would like to do for someone else.
google searches bring up very very little.

I know Sharp Shooter Supply does a special PPC size bolt head. Not sure if that would work for you or not....

It would have been a project to help out a person, and experience for me.
From what I see of a savage bolt head, there is not much metal on the "top" and "bottom" of the bolt head. would seem to result in a weak area for sure. The last thing I want to do is "guess" at what is safe.
I bet SSS makes the complete bolt head. I do know from oh, a certain thread on a certain accuracy based shooting forum, that doing business with sss is "out of my league"

Why dont you get a 6.8 spc bolt head and take about .005 to the side out and be done with it. No other mods required. Hell, the thing might be large enough in factory trim. Savage or PTG would be doable.

I second using PT&G. If you want to get one and modify it thats fine. But I am sure they will make one to whatever spec you want as well. I own one of their ppc bolt heads and I assure you you will not be dissapointed. Its not even in the same playing field as a factory. Matt
