Savage Prefit Barrels

I’m looking at fitting my Savage LRPV 6BR with one of the many prefit barrels available. I’m wanting a 6BR with a 1x9 twist in a contour that is the same as the factory barrel. I have not started a search on what’s available as I thought I would look for some good suggestions here first.

Thanks for your recommendations!!

Check Northland Shooters Supply. Shilen Select Match Grade has been more that enough for P-dogs on the prairie.

Thanks for the replies! I know 1x9 twist may seem a bit odd for a 6BR. I shoot primarily in varmint matches where the distances go out to 400 yards. I rebarreled a BAT I have with a Brux 1x9 shooting 90 grain Bergers and it shoots really well at these matches in custom class. I use my Savage 6BR LRPV in factory class and it appears this class will be modified to allow custom barrels. I am wanting to use the 90 grain Bergers in the Savage so that’s why I’m looking at the 1x9 twist.

Thanks again!

You wont ever know the difference in an 8tw except itll be easier to get and youll have more of a choice on bullets later down the road

I wish the club where i shoot matches would allow barrel swaps!!

I have a few rifles i'd like to try at the matches (rebarreled hunting rifles) but since i did a barrel swap, i'd be in custom class.
Shooting against full on benchrest rifles.

I USED TO RUN THE 90 BERGERS IN A 10 TWIST COOPER RIFLE 6BR, WAS CLUB CHAMP FOR 4 YEARS, BUT, THEY NEEDED TO BE PUSHED HARD TO BE PROPERLY STABILIZED!

For consistent quality I started using Lothar Walther barrels, but the wait times got longer and longer. I have used Mcgowen barrels, Shaw barrels both with good results, also used Hart, Lilja and Shielen barrels.
I have several 6mm rifles and would suggest the 1-8 twist that will stabilize the 100s amd 105s with ease.
Mcgowen makes the Savage and Remage barrels to fit different factory contours, with the nut, if you need it chambered they will do chamber it for you. I have 6-8 of their barrels, all shoot sub 1/2" at 100.

A couple of guys around here held 300yd fclass records using Criterion 6BR barrels on Savages. One was 200/30X but he stopped shooting in order to have enough ammo to finish the match.
