Savage Palma Actions

I had a conversation with Savage last week. During this conversation I was told the Palma Actions had a trued barrel nut and recoil lug. All other Savage Precision Target Actions don't.

With stating the above, the Palma Action must be trued, at least in my opinion.

Does anyone have the facts on the Palma actions?

I don't know about the truing but that is a great action for the money. I have since upgraded mine to Barnard actions I think if someone would develop a true two stage trigger for a savage they would sell some triggers

Hello, I have three newer SAVAGE 3-screw target actions. One Palma, two F/Class. There is a big difference in the two types of actions. My Palma is trued, timed and both recoil lug and barrel nut have extra machine marks on them like the aftermarket ones. The Palma action is smoother, easier to open and close. Took them to my smith and the Palma is indeed trued and timed. The F/Class actions aren't. They take a little more effort to operate. All guns were bought new in the box, unfired......................Extra: I purchased a CBI barrel in 243 AI, 30" SS Bull. Had a slight problem and CBI took care of it in 5 day turnaround. Out of seven custom barrels I have purchased over the last 13 years, the CBI is the nicest fit, finish and just as accurate as the Brux, Douglas, Shilen, custom match barrels..............

anyone else notice the Savage Palma action to be smoother operating? this is interesting. Can you buy Palma action directly from Savage?

Smoother, open and close with less effort. I have a 1996 action trued by Fred Moore of SSS. And his work is great, its the smoothest of all, maybe all the rounds fired. The F/Class Savage action are just hard to work compared to the Palma and my old action.
