Savage mpdel 12 308 load work up

Just got a used savage 308 model 12, I am looking for some loads for this rifle. Does anyone have a good load to sart with that works well. Also a good starting seating depth? I have varget on hand. Thanks

If you have Varget, one place to start would be with Sierra 155 Palma bullets. Somewhere around 45 gr should get you some results.

Assuming that 'model 12' here means '12 F/TR'...

Berger 155.5 BT 'Fullbore'
Lapua or Winchester brass - Winchester is cheaper, but will require more prep/sorting.
Varget or Viht N150 46.5-46.8gn in Lapua cases, 47.5-48+ in Winchester cases
Rem 9-1/2 or 210M primer

Seat bullets between 0.015 and 0.050 off lands (I usually go with about 0.045, just because it worked when I first tested these bullets and I've stuck with it ever since). Velocity should be somewhere between 2950-3000fps, maybe more if you're lucky.

Back off a grain or more from the above and double & triple check all your numbers when starting out.
