Savage model 29 info?

I have ,a Savage model 29 passed down from my grandfather and am looking for information on the worth of the gun and manufacture time frame (I've been told it is pre world war II). I am aware of at least one place to go requiring a fee for the info but am looking for a less expensive way to do it. The serial number is 139314 with what looks like a small "L" after the serial number. Both are located on the trigger assembly.

Thanks for any information you might be able to provide.

The early ones with octagon barrels were made from 1929-1940, these were pre-war. Then they made them after the war till 1967 or so with round barrels and no checkering. I would not shoot anything other than standard velocity due to the design which isn't that strong. If it were minty it would be worth 350.00 and down from there depending on wear, bluing, and wood condition along with bore condition. I have 3 of them but cant make one good one from the parts. I had a chance to buy one new in the box, this was 20 years ago and it was only 300.00 at the time, I should have bought it but alas I bought an O3 springfield instead.

Thanks Jon. I do have the octagonal barrel. Not great condition, but it still shoots fine, though it has had very little use over the past 50 years. I didn't think it was worth much, but may be worth hanging on to for a little while longer.
