Savage Model 12 LRPV

I picked up my new Savage model 12 LRPV in 6mm BR today.
Boy, this thing sure better shoot pretty groups because It's UGLY.
Sand blasted STST.
The stock is very textured on the surfaces where the bags will contact.
I'm thinking of sanding smooth and would like to coat with somthing?
Anybody know if this can be done?
I suppose i'll just sand smooth and see how that looks.

G

Shoot it and shoot it a lot. You will eventually get around to doing something to it because deep down you know you will be able to shot smaller if you sand it smooth. The doubt is already there.

Well, pretty much everything is ordered and on it's way for this show to start.
I ordered a Sightron from Lance and he spent a while with me informing me of the features of the
scope i picked out.
PRS 10-50x60 with the MOA-2 retical. It's on sale! Thant almost never happens to me.
I am unsure what rings will fit due to th e60mm front.
I'll wait to put th eEGW base on and try a set of Vortex rings I had on hand.
Thanks to all who took time to reply and help me get this going.
I am a master class NRA indoor pistol competitor and have a good bit invested
in pistols.
I started with a modest but well built 22 rimfire pistol and now shoot the best.
Possibily this spot will put me down the same road!

what model number is your PRS 10-50x60 ? Does it have illuminated reticle ?

Regarding the rear bag
Im not sure the bag that Protektor recomended but it didnt work as shipped.
The ears are parallel (SP?) to the bottom of the bag and as you know the stock
on a LRPV Savage is angled.
So I cut a wedge at the correct angle out of hard wood and glued 80 grit
paper to both sides so that the wedge stays put to the bench and bag stays
put to the wedge.
This has worked out pretty well.
I take care to set up the rifle so as to track correctly under free recoil.
I slide it back and forth to contact the bumper of the front rest and can bring it back to within
an inch of correct position at 200 Yds.

This group is from the very first large shank Savage barrel I ever made. It was an a twist in 6 dasher. The customer shot this group in his groundhog shoot at his club. He sent me three groups total. The other two were about an inch. This one is 3/8.

That's 300 yards.

I put an Urbanrifleman Wilson on my LRPV after 3000 rounds out of the factory
barrel.
This barrel far exceeded my expectations.
I wanted a 12 twist to shoot 68 Gr and went with ther recomended .030 FB.
This is the only change to the bone stock Savage.
The rifle consistantly shoots .3 at 100 and less than a !/2 MOA at 200 using Bart's Avengers
over 28.3 Gr of N133.
Best 200 yard was ,257 five shots.
Brad is great to work with and I would recomend using him to anyone.
