Savage Model 12 LRP DBM 243

I'm looking for a new gun for my long range woodchuck hunting needs. I could'nt find many reviews on this gun. Does anybody have one/shot one? Is it just a target action thats been opened up to accept a box magazine? Any input would be much appreciated.

I have this rifle in 22-250 with the 1-9 twist. With 69 smk bullets i have shot sub one inch groups at 300 yards. It is my most accurate rifle. This is 5 shot groups. ED

Is that with a factory barrel? Thats awsome. I have a savage model 25 in 204 ruger and its the most accurate gun ive ever shot. Minute of groundhog out to 500yds ;D Im just lookin for a gun to transfer a little more energy to extend my range. I think the gun you have is the model 12 vlp dbm. The one im lookin at is the the target series model 12 with the target accutrigger, and a HS stock, savage sku 19136. Ive heard mixed things about the target accutrigger and was just lookin for opinions. Thanks for you input.

I somewhat doubt that you have that particular model (unless you have a special-order from the factory), as the 12 LRP is only available in .243 Win, 6.5 Creedmoor, and .260 Remington.

The 12 LRPV is pretty much a kissin' cousin - primary differences being RBRP instead of RBLP and CM instead of SS for the action and barrel. Same stock and DBM system, though.

There have been several magazine articles out on the 12 LRP in 6.5 CM, and if you look hard enough several user reviews of this model in 6.5 CM or .260 Rem. Not much about it in .243 Win, as there ain't much new there. For whatever reason they stuck with the 1-9.25" twist instead of a 1-8", so it'll probably work great for varminting - just not good odds of it stabilizing 105-108gn bullets.

I have one in 6.5 Creedmoor... it is amazingly accurate with the 120-123gn A-Max bullets so far. The 140 A-Max bulles I put thru it thus far shot pretty well also.

ed k could have this model if he had an aftermarket barrel installed. thats why i asked if it was a factory tube or not. memilanuk how is the target accutrigger? i have a standard accutigger on my model 25. its good but seems like hit has a mile worth of creep. but works good enough for a hunting trigger. as for twist, 9.25 is fine i plan on shooting the 87gr. vmax. i would like to try the 87gr. berger vld but im unsure of how they would perform on groundhogs. im affraid they would pass thru before they have the chance to expand.

I've been using the Target Accutrigger for several years now in long range competition... while its not the same as a 2-4 oz. crisp single-stage, its pretty capable in its own right.

You guys are correct. To many different models anymore. This is a factory gun and i am very satisfied with it. It shoots lighter bullets extremely well also. ED K
