Savage Model 10 magazine

I have a Savage Model 10 in 308, is there a way to modify the 308 magazine to be able to use a 6mm Norma BR cartridge? I replaced my 308 barrel and installed a new 6br barrel and want to use the existing magazine. I this can't be done is there any magazines that will work and or modification DIY or a kit of some sort for the existing magazine?

What type of mag does it use? Is it a detachable AICS style? MDT sells a 6BR AICS metal mag. They have a 10 round and 12 round. They used to sell a kit for you to modify your mag. It has a spacer to effectively shorten the magazine and a different spring and follower. You might contact them to see if they still sell it - I didn't see it on their web site but you might contact them. I have a 6BR and a 6.5 Grendel that use the modified MDT mag and they both work well.

You will need to figure out a way to put a block in the mag and then a new follower and probably a new spring.
It's probably easier to put different bottom metal in and get AICS mags made for 6br. Look at 6br conversion kits for AICS mags and it might give you an idea what the factory mag might need.

Savage does sell a 6br repeater, if you have a centerfeed factory detachable mag.

I wrote to Savage - they stated that their 6BR's were all single shot rifles.

I guess it was offered and then discontinued. Possibly it had feeding issues. Look at the April 9 2008 Accurate shooter bulletin.

I think I read on a Savage forum that this mag might work with some tweaking? They don’t ever seem to be in stock on the Savage website now.
