savage mark two

just pick up a savage mark 2, got it for my 5 year old son with intension of cutting butt stock down for him. he's wanting to start shooting and thought it would be a good rifle.
it has been pillar bedded and a match camber on factory barrel. looks like a great little rifle, but never missed with rim fire that much, what are some good ammo for it. and what can i expect if it is a match chamber.

I did a lot of testing to see what worked in my Mark II BTVS. It pretty much came down to $$. Stay subsonic, and essentially all target ammo is, and spend more to get more. Here are my results from best to worst.

I'm not sure how accurate you want to get, but I recently bought a Savage MKII BV and have done some testing for best accuracy, mostly because of a monthly Benchrest Compeition we do at my local gun club. I see Ron aka gave you an extensive list of possibilities and thats great. For my Savage though, I've found that Wolf Target and Wolf Match Extra work very well. Eley Black works even better and Federal Gold Ultra Match works the best. You can bet the price per box goes up with each improvement, but again that depends on what you want to accomplish with your daughter's new weapon. BTW, pm me if you need a list of sources which I've found sell all the ammos I listed for the best price around.
