Savage LRPV .223 1/9

Asking for loading advice for 64 Berger & 69 SMK. Shooting reduced course,200yd) f-class. Thank you. gpoldblue@yahoo.com

I have five 223's with 1:8 or 1:9 twist barrels,4 bolt and 1 AR). Cannot say enough about H4895 or Benchmark for accuracy at any distance. First load out of the AR15 produced a 2.5" five shot 300 yard group....with my spare junk scope.

I use CCI450 primers, Win or FC brass, and seat the bullets 0.010" off of the lands, seems to work the best across the board).

I would recomend staying away from Fed brass if you are going to fire it more than 2 times in a AR15, the brass is just too soft and the primer pockets expand. Winchester, Remington and Lake City, Black Hills, made by Winchester) are some good brass. Though, it is the general practice amongst highpower competitors that shoot service rifle, to dump the brass at about 4 firings. Varget, RL-15, N540, N140, IMR and Hod 4895 are good powders.. I have no experience with Benchmark or Tac. If you are shooting out in the hot sun all day, I would tend to stay away from ball powders. The first two powders that I mentioned are the most popular powders used.

i am having really good luck with benchmark and rl 15. i shoot an ar 15 w/ 1-8 twist 24 inch heavy barrel. it shoots one hole with 52 gr sierra bt at 25.2 grs of benchmark/ win brass and cci br4s. also 75 gr hornady bt match at 24.7 rl 15 are as accurate as the 52 s. but at longer yardage i think i'll take the 75s all day. goodluck...
