Savage long action spacing

OMG! I got my stock today and guess what it is a L.A.. I bought it from a guy on ebay that was sure it was a short action. It is stamped SAV. L.A., how could the guy forget that?So... New question, what is the spacing of centerfeed and staggered in savage Long Actions? Also, I can still buy a L.A. and make it a .308 right? Thanks,

Just saw this before running out the door, so I will give you details on spacing for savage actions later tonight if someone doesn't do it before.

Yes, you can build a .308 on a long action as long as you get the right bolt head,.473). You may have feeding issues if you want to use the mag though. Is it a centerfeed or a staggered feed?

the long actions all have the same spacing. so you could get a 25-06, 270, 30-06 and have the right boltface or 7mm and 300 mags and change the boltface. long action bolt spacing is 5.062", where the new stevens model 200 short is 4.4"
as far as feeding with the mag, not sure. i've been doing 6.5-284's with long and short actions and shooting them as single shots, works fine. good luck with your project cliffe

Thanks for the help. I really appreciate it. Sorry about the centerfeed or staggered feed part, but I know the short actions have changed. I guess the long actions haven't so I am in the clear to buy any long action. I probably will put a single shot follower in the magazine anyway. Thanks again.

Here is some detailed info for you from savageshooters.com. Long actions are also centerfeed. I believe the change over occurred in 2006? If the magazine stays attached after you take it out of the stock, it is a staggered feed. If the mag stays in the stock, it most likely a centerfeed. There is lots of great info at savageshooters. Here is the spacing info:
