Savage Large Shank turned down to small shank....?????

I have a large shank barrel from a Savage Model 12 LRP in .243 WIN.. but do not have a large shank receiver for it. Is it best to have it turned down to a small shank and use on a receiver that I have... or try to find a large shank receiver... without going through a lot of expense?

I keep thinking that I might find an older type receiver from a pawn shop that would work with this barrel, but not sure that would be... got any ideas?

I think there was a thread regarding this about a year ago, search may find it.

Believe it was done (turning down the large shank). Required "picking up" the exsiting thread if I remember correctly and someone on this forum did it for the owner.

You can turn it down to fit the small shank no problem.

If you have a local gunsmith check with them, they may be able to do it and will save you sending it off somewhere.
