Savage Headspace on Barrels with Iron Sights

How does Savage set the headspace for rifles with iron sights? Can't just screw the barrel in until it is set . . .
 
That is true,you may have to get one of thicker recoil lugs and have a smith retime and headspace the barrel.I have had it done myself.If you took the sights off and converted to another siting system you would be ok.
 
Well I don't know about the sights on Savage barrels but I was told by a top guy at Savage that they stamp the Savage logo on the barrels after they have been headspaced so it's in the right place. Maybe they machine the dovetail for the foresight at the same time?
