Savage H17 , semi auto 17hmr

Anyone out there familiar w/this rifle? Savage 17 hmr semi-auto. My friend just got a new one and has problems. Load magazine, chmber round, fire the round. After round is fired rifle will not fire again until you push safety to "on" position, then push safety to "off" position. Rifle will fire next round.

This has to be done each time you fire a round. Rifle has accu-trigger, I'm wondering if there is some type malfunction in trigger causing the problem Thanks for any help. -- Tommy McKee, HFV

Tell your friend to take it back too where he got it. Just my two cents Tommy Mc

The issues we've seen with that rifle series relate to SEATING the MAGAZINE. Some elements in the polymer stock offer resistance to the magazine so it does not seat 100%. Tell your friend to push the magazine in HARD.

If that is not the solution, contact Savage customer service.

I had an early A17. Had issues with the mag, but most concerning was the plastic trigger assembly. Mine would sometimes not fire next shot, like the trigger was stuck or hammer not cocked. Then I would manually cycle another round and then it would fire with very little trigger pressure. I sold it shortly thereafter. Should have sent it back. POS in my opinion.
