Savage gunsmiths

Savagegunsmithing.com They have package's that are priced reasonable.

I have to second Savagegunsmithing. I know the smith, he has fixed and accurized many of my rifles. He is a true Master Gunsmith, knows ballistics and does fantastic work. He loves working on firearms and it shows with the precision of his work.
Is easy to talk to and will help you with any questions, IQ is off the charts, but tons of common sense.
Savage Corp also includes him in their brainstorming round tables with the CEO, engineers, production mgrs. etc. He even accurizes rifles for the CEO of Savage if that tells you anything.
The CEO of Savage contacted him due to his reputation with their rifles.

My Best, John K

Many thanks guys. Fred has one of my Savage 12s right now. I have been expecting it back for three weeks but the delivery date keeps getting pushed back. I hope it is worth the wait. I will probably try one of the other smiths to compare results.

He has an action of Mine that keeps getting pushed back. I was going to have them build the whole rifle however after the push backs and hard time contacting them. I will have someone else build it.

Savagegunsmithing has a deal, he will get what you want at the cheapest price + $329 accuracy pack, shipping and 3% cc fee. Anybody went this route? Am looking at a used LRP in 243 and having a hard time deciding. Also have a 223 VBSS all factory that with the gun, load and me on the same page wii shoot into about 1/2 in @ 100. Any thoughts on what the $329 job would do for me? thanks--hayboy

I would try Mr. Lambeth...! His times may not be the same up front, but I'll bet he delivers close to when he says he will. AND.....most importantly...his work will be right the first time around! ;D

Yea if I were you I would stay away from SSS. They don't deliver on time and it's almost impossible to get a hold of them.

1+ for Kevin Rayhill at Stockade. Great guy to work with and fun to talk to on the phone.

I got my action when he said it would be done.

I have had two actions timed & trued by SSS, and a PTA I bought from them T&T'd with the Evolution trigger, and bought 2 stocks from them. The work is good but the wait is looooong and unpredictable, and the communication piss-poor because it is virtually impossible to get a hold of them. The first action, along with a stock, came more or less when promised, so based on that I ordered the PTA from them, they promised 3 months, but it took 9 months. The second stock took 8 months as opposed to the promised 15 weeks.

Even though I should've learned my lesson, I sent another action to be T&T, but this time, I wasn't in any hurry because it was just a cheap Stevens meant for a knockabout gun.

They don't even have a separate fax line, ferchrissakes, so it was a b*tch just getting my FFL information to them for the one action I bought from them (lots of FFLs here don't like to email a copy of their FFL for some reason).

A local shooter at my range has a long-range Savage built by Larry Racine, and Nat Lambeth seems to have a very good reputation also. From what I can tell, Kevin Rayhill seems to be a mixed bag like SSS (he also used to be affiliated with them somehow).

I have had the same issues with SSS regarding changing time lines for delivery, with not being able to contact them via phone, not having my emails answered and Lisa. My first rifle from them took almost 2 months longer than I was quoted but it was well worth it in my mind. During that build Lisa and I had pretty good communication WHEN I was able to reach her. When it came to my second build the communication went down the toilet. Some emails were never responded to and after a long while I asked for my parts back. I feel that instead of giving my parts back and looking money they decided to get my rifle out the door quick. The quality of the bedding and the barrel contouring were no where near the quality of the first rifle. I will NEVER do business with them again. Ever. With the changing timeline problem....and that it seems to be a continual problem...Imy guess is people are paying to get ahead in line. The guy obviously knows what he is doing and I can't believe he is not capable of a more accurate estimate of completion time for projects. It's BS and again they will never have my business again.
