Savage fanatics _ _ HELP!

I have a re-barreled savage action w/box magazine and want to re- stock it . It's an older Accu-trigger model but I have no idea what stock it fits and I want to order one .If you know the older savages send me your phone # and good time to call or call me 815-282-3450 CST . I'm a lousy typist which causes me to swear alot so phone calls are easier on my temper !!! Help would be appreciated --- HELP !!!!

Determine if the mag is center or stagger feed. Next is bolt release, top, etc.
Long or short action. Three numbers are generally long, two are short.
Stock suppliers in no particular order:

There are quite a few more but those are some I have used. I use quite a few Bell and Carlson Medalist or Hogues if that matters.

Next you need to figure do you want to pillar and bed it yourself or buy a stock with an integral aluminum bedding block (Bell and Carlson Medalist or Hogue). The aluminum blocks are in synthetic stocks.
A great place for all things Savage is SavageShooters forum.

I build up quite a few on Savage platforms. Pretty much all rifles for hunting but they can shoot very well. With the easy barrel change, it's a good platform for folks that want to play with different cartridges.

There really isn't all that much you need to know:

Action screw spacing center to center. Measure it with a caliper.

4.411" or there about it's a center feed
4.275" is a stagger feed
5.062" is a long action

The stock makers really don't care about stagger or center feed, just the screw spacing. In fact it complicates things because some rifles in 223 and 204 have the 4.411" screw spacing but are stagger feed.

If it's an older Accutrigger it's almost certainly a 4.275" but measure it anyway.

Another way: When you take the stock off the rifle does the magazine box stay with the action or is it held in the stock. If it stays with the action it's a standard/stagger feed. If it stays with the stock it's a center feed. But measure the screw spacing anyway.

If it's a detachable box mag that's a whole different story.

Since the term "older accu-trigger" is rather vague:confused: Google: Boyds stocks. You'll find tutorials for specifically identifying your particular action type and a host of choices....... have fun!

Dave Berg - I think you've helped me !!!!! Thank you . Now what about single shot followers . I think I'd like to put this in a 3" wide flat bottomed fore end single shot .

Depends whether it's a stagger feed or center feed of course and some are cartridge dependent. Score High makes a bunch of different ones which are hard to sort out from the retailers websites like Midway but IIRC they're all stagger feeds. Sharp Shooters Supply makes one for long or short action center feeds.

I got one a while ago from Jim Briggs at Northland Shooters Supply. If you're gonna' play with Savages you should know Jim anyway. (763)-682-4296

Something else that might help is , what are your intended uses ? Are you are wanting a light Wt. hunting rifle, something more suited for "position" shooting, or something for shooting from a bench ?

Dave ,I've dealt w/Jim Briggs before and you can't ask for a nicer more helpful person . I thought I read here that he's not there anymore though . I'll call for help on Mon. though . Badddgg your suggestion on tacticalworks may be just the ticket, thanks guys !!!!!

Jim is retired and his son in law took over so everything should be just the same except for the web page which is updated.

I'm sure his son in law will be fine if he's half as nice and knowlegeable (sp?) as Jim . Jim is a tough act to follow and I wish both of them well .
