Savage F versus Savage Bench Rest in 6mmbr?

I've decided to go with the 6mmbr for our clubs 600yd competition.

Would the F class Savage be a good choice for shooting from the bench? It's a little heavier than the Savage model 12 Bench Rest.....

Or is there a reason why the F is not a good option for this purpose?

Thanks

If you are going to shoot from a bench, go with the BR model. Pretty much the same rifle but the stock is more suited to shoot off a bench. Or I think so anyway. Any other thoughts out there?

just remember if you ever decide to shoot f-t/r which is prone that straight butt wont do as good for elevation correction you will have to rely on a bi-pod only .

No big deal to have a dedicated stock for each: one for benchrest & one for F-Class. Very few stocks are ideal for both.

Kind of like a "Street/ Trail" bike versus one dedicated to street riding only and/or one dedicated to off-road trail riding only. The "all-purpose" gives up a little of each.

I shoot Long Range benchrest and if you take a look at 99% of the Long Range Benchrest stocks they have a profile very much like the Savage F Class rifle. I find this type stock superior in shooting "Long Range" benchrest.

My Farley actioned long range Benchrest rifle uses a Shehane MBR Tracker stock and it very close to the Savage F Class profile, with the biggest difference being the bottom of the stock is about 3/8" wider on the Savage. This is not a problem as you just need a wider spacing between the ears on the rear bag. I did have the chance to shoot a Savage F Class at the my last match last month, after all of the scoring was done. My rear bag spacing is for the Shehane stock and a little narrow for the Savage but it tracked very well on my bag. I personally prefer this stock profile to the Savage Bench rest rifle. Another advantage, for me at least, is the fact that the F Class comes with a 30" barrel. That length barrel is not available on the Benchrest Model.

I am in the same position as the original poster is right now. I wanting to do the very same thing he is and have following his threads around. The stock differences were discussed in the Competition forum before a couple weeks ago or so. Some guys say the Benchrest stock tracks better and some say the F-class does. Is it really a 50/50 or maybe a preference thing? I would like to have the 30" barrel (F-class) instead of the 29" (BR) but the thing that keeps me away from the F-class is that it comes in a right bolt right port. The BR comes with right bolt, left port, right eject. I might change my mind after actually shooting some benchrest competition, but right now I would just as soon have a right bolt left port only action. I have gotten used to the configuration of the LRPV and I like to do the loading and unloading with my left hand. The worst problem right now is I can't find a new 12 benchrest in 6br to buy.

I am wanting to run it in a factory class and figured that if I tried a configuration that the factory didn't offer that it wouldn't work. I think that some clubs around the country don't consider the Savage target actioned rifles to be "factory" anyway. I guess I could ask but the guy doing the range has been busy enough trying to get this new range up and ready for the first shoot and I hate to call. There are a few 6br benchrest rifles showing up on some of the internet retailers now so maybe my "guy" will find one for me now.

There must be 600 sold to the pubic for a rifle to qualify as factory. And savage is considered a top choice in my area for factory class.
