Savage F/TR coppermine...

Ok, maybe not a copper mine but not a clean shooter. 30 shots and it is fouled pretty bad. Did not do the whole 1 shot one clean but did fifteen shots, then cleaned with Wipe Out till no copper. Did this several times. Now have 160 rds and it still fouls pretty good.

So used to my krieger...

Not really interested in Tubbs Final Finish. Really not that bad of shape I believe, but..

Would JB be worth a shot to smooth it out a little? Not talking lapping , just a good thourough swabbing?

Never used JB, never really had to.

skip the jb for "smothing it out", it might end up copper fouling worse. All it will do is make the low spots, shinny low spots, and make the high spots, shinny high spots.

tubbs bullets would do more good, or if it is holding good accuracy just keep shooting it and cleaning after a range session when it hits a couple hundred more rounds it will start to clean up easy.

Thanks Jim,

That really makes sense on it polishing what is there and not really doing any good. Still working on loads. It is no hummer but not as consitent as I would like. Was hoping I could hold half moa but it is averaging around 3/4 to 1 moa at my 300 yard range.

I bought this rifle to hopefully use while I have my Barnard based F Open rifle built.

all my savages like to be dirty before they shoot their best. anytime i would show up at a match with a clean savage it took 30-40 shots to settle in.

I started Thursday with a clean barrel. Took five shots to settle down and it REALLY shotgunned those five! Fired 60 shots and accuracy was as good a it has been. Went home and cleaned and lots of copper. 200 rds total and finally getting my loads sorted for three bullet combos.

Lead slug lapping? Allways wanted to try that but have been afraid to. Might try that since I know I will change barrels soon.

I have a Tikka 25-06 that looks like a copper mine..but it shoots great...i just shoot it with the copper in the barrel..i run a patch thru to take the loose stuff out and that's it....when and if the accuracy falls off .I'll clean it and start over..why worry if it shoots

I have a .308 f-class rifle and it coppered up pretty bad.Soooooooo I bought the .308 bullet set from tubbs and loaded them up and followed his instrutions and voila,it now shoots more accurately and cleans up easier. They work period.
