Savage F class stock pricing ! WTF

You can get a brand new one for about $1400. With a used one you have no idea how many rounds have been through it , how many owners it’s had . A used one goes for about a grand . I bought a used one 2 years ago off Gunbroker for $900 .
OK, I believe he said that he put about $400 in the action...timing, trueing, bolt knob and I think stock bedding with pillars and $300 for the SSS Comp trigger. I think what he meant by them being factory is that they were used in Factory Class matches...these are not just "out of the box" factory rifles...he had all the bells and whistles done do a savage that you could do and still be used in factory class...so $1400 new and then another minimum of $700 additional work. Hope that explains things a little better.

I can understand seeing the price on them and thinking they are just out of the box used factory rifles.

The actions are as smooth as glass and the trigger is unbelievable...not your ordinary out of the box rifle.

Any idea how many rounds have been through it . I’m surprised after having all that work done that he was still using the factory barrel . The factory barrels are horrible .

I know when him and his brother first got them they borescoped them and the barrels were horrible. They contacted Savage and showed them the borescope results and Savage agreed that they were junk. The barrels they finally got from Savage were very very good. They had bought I think 5-6 of these rifles and I think that is why Savage took care of them on the barrels...from what they said at that time, the barrels looked as good as any custom barrel going. I don't know how many rounds are thru them, but I can ask Stanley and see if he has an idea. I remember that the place in Ohio that they sent them to and had all the work done to them was Sharp Shooter Supply (SSS)...from what I read, he is the master when it comes to Savages but I guess his business practices have now gone way down hill.
If memory serves me, after some time the rules changed for Factory class or I guess they stopped allowing the Savage F class rifle with the F class stock to be used in Factory Class...they said that this rifle with that stock did not meet the implied Factory gun rules...so the other 2 Savage F class rifles that Stanley and his brother had, they put them in the HS Precision stocks to shoot in Factory Class and left the ones in the F class stocks alone. That is where the 2 stocks he had for sale came from. I believe the other 2 Savage target rifles in the HS stocks are listed on the website for sale too.
I could run a borescope down the barrels and snap a few pics to see how good or bad they are if that is something you would want me to check on. I know he would let me shoot a few groups from them and see what they are capable of doing...I have done that for some other rifles that have sold.
Kind of a long story but that is what I know about these rifles. I will see him again Friday and see if I can get more details.

More and better pics would help also .

Thank You

Agree...some more pics with better detail would help.

I will see what all I can do and find out Friday and let you know. Stanley is 80 years old now and his twin brother just passed away recently...that is why all their stuff is now for sale.

I've looked at that site before, and again tonight. Is that the personal collection of 2 guys?! If so, I can't even begin to imagine how that is possible.

Yes, believe it or not it was their personal collection. They were both successful business men and after a fairly long hobby of Pro Stock drag racing in their younger days, they got into the guns and this is what they have done up to now. They shot about every class of shooting there was...short range BR, long range stuff, Varmint for score, factory class....basically every class or type of competitive shooting...even the ARA rimfire stuff.
Both very nice guys.
