Savage F-class rifle

How well can one expect this rifle to shoot at 600-1000 yds. with 6.5x284 with good ammo? THANKS...........

I just picked mine up a few weeks ago. I've been waiting for all this damn snow to melt here in New Hampshire. I think I'm going to go with a Weaver fixed 36X scope and Burris rings w / inserts. I'd like better glass but our family of five limits my budget. I was thinking of getting a Davis 3x optical booster. Let me know how you make out with your rig. Good Luck

I haven't purchased one yet. I would like to get into the 600-1000 yd. game, and trying to stay on somewhat of a budget. I can't make my mind up between a build off of a couple 700 actions I already have or a custom action or a Savage F-class rifle.

Only thing I have done so far with my F T/R .308 is break the barrel in.Shot,clean-shot,clean. The 1st shot was on paper at 75yds about 2" from the bull, after boresighting. I left it there and cleaned, shot, etc for 5 rnds...1 ragged hole, later measured to be .211. Set my targets up at 100 yd and with a bit of crosswind..shot 5 rnd groups, clean after each rnd and repositiond the Harris bi-pod/rear bag for each rnd, it shot all bullets touching 5 shot groups for 75 rnds. .185"-.266".I'm pretty satisfied for a box rifle.I think letting the barrel cool in cleaning after each shot may have helped too. I used unprepped,Win new brass,FL-sized,then neck-sized with a Lee Collet die. 42gr varget set behind a Sierra 168gr match,Fed 215 gm primer, seated to book length. Ordered and after a 20 week wait recieved my Shilen select match 28" factory contour .243AI .270 neck barrel. Swapped barrels, and Devcon Bedded the action in the Savage factory stock. Now I have to neck-turn and fire-form some brass and see if it shoots as good or better??? I've never owned anything that shot this good, so I'm really supprised. I think the gun shoots way better than this 63 year old's old eyes can....Good luck with your Savage Target rifles...I love mine. BTW....that's with a "cheap" BSA 36-44 Platnium fch scope....Warne 1 piece bedded base and Warne QD rings....Who says Mail-order guns and set-ups don't shoot....makes my 700 BDL look like a BB gun..
