Savage Ejector Lil Steel Ball

I was amazed how far that little steel ball shot out when the punch I was using slipped off.I never could find it and was thinking I would have to order one but i thought i would try something a #2 steel shot shell has a bunch of them that are just the right size. I felt like a hero after being a zero. Maybe this will help someone out.

#3 steel shot works like a charm....ask me how I know...now, like was said abouve, I remove the extractor with the bolt inside a gallon freezer bag.

Guessing you must mean the ball for the "extractor"? There's no ball for the ejector, just the rod and spring.;)
And if you don't have any "steel shot", stop at your local Bicycle repair shop. They use the small ball bearings for their wheel bearings. A pocket magnet, a small zip lock plastic bag and a couple of $$ will get you enough small ball bearings to last quite a while. They work great for the extractor ball.

Yepper extractor was what I should have said.

I set a rare earth magnet beside the tractor works good after l lost bout 3, but that's me ol duffy

The front wheel ball bearings in an old Schwinn Continental bicycle are perfect and probably better quality than the original. Luckly I had a bunch when I launched the Savage part into orbit.

...or go to the hardware store and pick up a 9/64" (0.140") ball bearing in lieu of the stock 1/8" (0.125") ball. Takes up the 'slop' in the detent and centers the extractor a little better.
+1
Or buy a little baggy of 9/64’’ detent balls from Brownells. I believe they come 10 in a bag. That should last you. If you manage to lose all ten you’re doing something wrong..
Plus losing one is a good reason to order the enhanced extractor kit from Sharpshooters Supply and never look back. ;)

What is the difference between the stock extractor and the SSS kit? If it's just the size of the detent ball I would order some. I'm just about over waiting on a kit from them?

The kit as Texas10 said is a machined extractor which is much stronger than the stock extractor. The larger detent ball stiffens the extractor. Also included is a squared off ejector and stronger ejector spring. IMHO it gives the Savage a much more positive extraction and ejection.
I have also replaced the stock detent with a 9/64” on a factory extractor with positive results.

Well, it's only been around a month, guess I'll keep on waiting.

I've got two of the kits, and probably won't ever use them as I've removed the ejectors from my target guns.

If you want one, or both, PM me and I'll have them in the mail Tuesday.

I'll even kick in the 9/64" ball bearing. I think I have a few left.

Wow! Yes, I'll take one. I don't know if it matters but I have a Model 12. I"ll PM you my address.
