savage bolt shroud stuck

working on a friends long action bolt. He wants a new handle put on but the shroud won't come off. Got it soaked with kroil right now. Before I apply any heat is there a method I should try?

It should just screw off -I suspect lock-tite. If the shroud has a hex head I would put it in a vice and use more force to attempt "break" it loose before heat.

If it does not come loose or has the slotted bolt head, put a bit of heat to it and try again while hot.

never seen locktite on a bas
just put a 1/4 allen in the bas set it on the carpet & stand on it

Problem solved. Just never had a shroud that hard to take off before. Not my bolt and I didn't want to screw it up. Took a while for the kroil to work in. Thanks for the input.

They are that tight. The way that drybean told you how is the normal advice from others over on the Savage site.
