Savage bolt head for Bergara rifle

Does anyone know if a savage bolt head is interchangeable with the bergara bolt head? I have one of the bergara t
Remington clones, but no savage to try out. Would like to have a .223 switch barrel in addition to .308.

I cant see that bergara would use somebody else's designs but never having even held one I couldnt say for sure. have you called bergara for replacement bolt heads?

They don't make a .223rem.

The rifle is a Premier LRP, which seems to be a Remington copy. Same footprint, interchangeable triggers, same bolt diameter. I'm not certain, but my Web crawling says that it's also same barrel tennon, but no bolt nose recess.

@moondog
Thanks for sending me a bolt head to try this out!

The short answer: no, a savage bolt head is not a straight swap in a Bergara bolt.

Long answer: over the next few weeks, I will see how much machine work is required to make it fit. The savage bolt shank is longer and skinnier, and will need trimming and sleeveing.

Will post pics when I can get back in the shop.

Thanks! I really appreciate being a part of this community.

I hope you get it to work. Keep me posted

Old thread but has anyone found a way to install a .223 bolt head on a bergara premier? Figured I could buy a replacement .308 head and bush it but, just got off the phone with Bergara. They will not sell the bolt head. Was told they do not have any problems with their bolts so they do not sell parts?

Send it to carlsbad on here and get it bushed down to 223

Thanks for the quick reply Dusty. I was hoping to have .223 & .308 heads and swap between for an f-t/r rig. I'll definately contact Carlsbad if I decide to go straight .223, but I'm starting to loose interest in this Bergara.

@LT313 just called me. I googled it and found this thread.

I don't remember what a bergara bolt head looks like but based on it looking like a savage, I don't think I can put a sako or M16 extractor in it and I don't do sliding plates.

However, based on the discussion above sounds straightforward to adapt a savage bolthead. Don't think I see any safety issues there. but would have to measure the differences myself.

I don't understand the question about primary extraction. Changing the bolthead wouldn't change that if you keep the critical dimensions the same.
