Savage 6.5X284 shooting left

I have a new Savage F-Class. Started out good but when I changed to 20 or 30 moa bases it shot 3 feet to the left. I changed scopes and bases but still shot left. ALL SCREWS WERE TIGHT.
Any ideas why?

mine shoots way right. i have the same rifle and a farrell 20moa base and farrell rings. i only have 10 mintes of left windge still avilable on my Nightforce Benchrest scope.

so, are you saying that you had a flat base on and everything was fine? what kind of 20moa base do you have?

by the way, how does yours shoot, mine shoots good.

there is a thread on benchrestcentral.com that a fella has encountered the same exact thing and I believe he sent the barrel off back to Savage..here is the post

Hope this helps and maybe you can ask him some questions..

THANKS FOR THE REPLIES.
I STARTED WITH A FLAT BASE THEN WENT TO NIGHTFORCE 20 MOA THEN FARRELL 30 MOA BASE AND RINGS. SAME PROBLEM.
TRIED DIFFERENT SCOPES AND RINGS INCLUDING NIGHTFORCE SCOPE.
I WILL TRY AGAIN WITH THE FLAT BASE AND TALK TO SAVAGE IN THE MORNING.
MINE SHOOTS 140 AM WELL BECAUSE I SHOOT HOGS WITH IT, NOT PAPER.

Check and see if the scope base holes are out of alignment or your barrel is not centered. An easy and inexpensive test is to take a straight edge and clamp it to the action. Measure the gap between the muzzle and straight edge on both sides. The same thing can be done in a vice. Put the action in a vice with a straight edge. Measure the gap between the base and the straight edge in the front and the back. Do both sides as the bases could be machines or drilled miss aligned.

If this is a new action I would send it back to Savage to the attention of Joe Degrande. It happens from time to time and I have heard they replace these actions without question.

If this is an older used action you have several options. You can shim or machine your bases to fix base alignment problems. You can use a Redfield/Lepould style base/rings that have rear windage adjustment.

If it is the action you can have it trued.

Your barrel may be set back and indexed to remedy the problem.

Good Luck
