savage 20 ga model 220 slug gun

yep got one and is like shooting a bolt rifle. Don't care for the trigger though.

You will love it if you can pay to have a real trigger job on it. Or put a rifle basix sav-2 in it.

I have one since I live in IL and we can't deer hunt with a high power rifle. Our deer season is actually next weekend. I bought it last year and killed a nice doe with it. Mine shoots the 20 gauge Remington Accutips 3 and 2 3/4 inch slugs the best. I can hit clay birds at 130 yards about every shot with it. It's nice and light too. My old Winchester 1300 rifled barrel 12 gauge pump was a tank compared to it. It's a pretty good gun to hunt deer with.

I've had one for 3 years now and really like it. Mine shoots the Hornady SST's the best and the trajectory info on the box is very close to reality for mine.
Three years ago, I posted a piece on another forum about my Savage 220 and a 150 yard shot that anchored a doe with a heart shot.

My shot was with a Harris bipod and a steady position from my elevated stand.

Click the "autopsy" link and note a centered heart shot.

Myself and two of my friends have this gun and my two friends have had trouble with the bolt not staying cocked after the first shot. I have not had this problem but the second shot does not feed as well as it should if you get in a hurry. Overall we are pleased with the guns they handle well, are easy to carry and they shoots good out to 100 yards. I think the 20 gage rifled sabot slugs are the best medicine for deer hunting.

A friend got one a few years ago and I took him to my range to sight in and test various factory loads. With the Accutips, it out shot my M1A. I was impressed.

I bought one this year. IMHO it needs ALOT of cycleing (like a couple hundred dummy rounds) to get the feed smoothed out from the mag or it'll jam (fast or slow bolt cycle). Once that was done it cycles fine and shoots darn good (wish Savage would've included scope base/bases). The Hornady 2 3/4" SSTs shoot best in mine

I have been shooting one for three years without any problems. It is easy to carry. Very accurate with Rem 3" accutips.

Good shooting,
Gene

It's a great gun. Inhave both the 20 and 12 gauge versions. Both great but if I could only have one I'd go with the 20 so I think you're headed in the right direction.
