Savage 17wsm opinions/suggestions

Anyone know of an after market barrel maker for the Savage Bmag?? I would love to try one..
I had mine out two days ago and killed 30 or so P-dogs with it. Shooting out to a little over 200 yards. Had a funny damn shot. I had one facing me looking straight in my direction. I swear that I shaved the hair on the right side of his body. At the shot he looked at his side then darted for the hole. lol..

I don't believe anyone makes a drop in barrel, but if a person didn't mind spending the money, they could order a .17 cal rimfire barrel in whatever twist they wanted then take it to a gunsmith and have him fit it to the receiver. Probably would cost more than it's worth, but it would be a great experiment to see someone do it.

Watch out for guys like ^^^^^ he likes to help YOU stimulate the economy;-).

I have toyed with the idea myself.

I read an article just a while back. Consensus was the ammo was as much an issue as the a available guns. All shot close to the same type groups. $250-$2000 rigs, all ran around 7/8” average with all ammos availble.
I have been watching to see if guys are measuring and weighing ammo yet. I get off my rear I could whip up a rim gauge fairly easy.

@JHS the thread is telling. My heavy stainless barrel has zero problem holding under 1 moa for five shots and I have shot numerous .2 to .3.

These are not target rifles but they are plenty accurate for varmint out to two hundred.

It's your gun, do what you want, but if it were mine and it shot 4in groups at best, you didn't say the yardage so I'm assuming these were 100 yard groups, I'd be calling Savage and talking to them about it. They'll send you a prepaid label so you can send it back on their dime and see if they can find something wrong with it. They may replace the barre, gun, who knows, but I'd go that route before I started doing anything to it that could potentially void the warranty.

If it's shooting that bad, that is more than an ammo issue and won't likely be fixed by bedding the barrel.

Some guys swear they shoot better in the POS plastic stock, I don't really see how that's possible, but I still have a brand new one I took off of my HB SS Bmag and I'd be happy to give it to you if you want to try that.

B i appreciate the offer - i do - and I’m tempt d to try but i got to be honest - if it did shoot better it would have to shoot one hole before i could leave in the Tupperware. I’ve always said it doesn’t matter what it looks like as long as its shoots but i have limits. I saw how it twist and bends on some of the YouTube videos and. Well i appreciate it. I think i am gonna go the savage route before doing anything to it but I’ve never had to return a rifle before. Never owned a savage don’t think except for maybe a couple of the rimfire hmrs in 17. Seems like i have maybe one or two that do shoot pretty good. So if a fella needed to contact savage how would he go about talking with them ? Website maybe ? Thanks

I only have Savage rimfire rifles and I've never had to send anything back to them, but I've talked to them a few times about magazine issues and I had to replace the extractor once. They were excellent to deal with and sent me new extractor parts as well as some new magazines. They said if that didn't fix the problem they would send me a prepaid shipping label and I could send it back to have them work on it. I was fortunate enough to be able to fix the problem myself so I never had to deal with sending my gun back. I know a few guys over on RFC have sent guns back to them and Savage paid for the shipping both ways.
