Savage 17 HMR mag issues

Pull my finger
A friend has the Savage 93R177 17HMR. Anyhow does anyone have a fix for the magazine?? Or a replacement? Several times we had the "Ammo" geyser going on.. I finally shot it single shot when I used it.. Any help will be appreciated..

I bought my father one and during the sight in and subsequent shooting session over 50rds fed from the magazine without a single problem. after that he bought a spare magazine at bass pro and if there would have been a single malfunction I would have heard about it. probably 500rds by now.

You could try bending the top of the magazine inwards to keep the rounds from jumping out. Whatever you do don't buy 10 round mags. Those don't feed well at all. There is a mod online to fix them but it didn't work for me.

#1) Give Savage Tech Support a call (1 (413) 568-7001) explain your problem and they will send you replacement magazines for the ones you have that are causing problems. They are very good about sending out replacements.

#2) Take a pair of pliers and lightly squeeze the feeds lips back together and it should fix the problem but don't be surprised if you have to do this every so often as they seem to get spread apart over use.

Also, after squeezing the feed lips back together I took a flat file and filed a little off the top of the feed lips on my magazines and this seemed to cure the problem from reoccurring, at least it did with mine.

My buddy and I each have 4 magazines for our Savage 17HMR rifles. I have one that acts up occasionally so I put an x on it and only use it when I really need to. Buddy has one that acts up real often so he put an s on it. I asked him why s. He says that is for shitty magazine. The other 6 work great.

Mine would dump multiple rounds out the chamber sometimes. Bending in the top tabs on the mag has eliminated that.
