savage 12FTR .308 rings and bases, please help!

I know we all hate the same things posted over and over, but I searched 25 pages and could not find what I was looking for.

I have the rifle on order and will be picking it up in a week, I do have the scope NF NXS 8-32x56. What I do not have is the size rings I would need to mount the scope to the rail ( I plan on getting the EWG 20 moa). Anyone out there have any idea what ring size to use? I would like to order everything online as soon as possible, so I can put it all together and go shoot.

Thanks,
Rob

Thanks for the reply, The measurements I got off the egw website are as follows: Tactical rail is .4-.45" high and the HD rails are .3-.35" high

Does that help any?

This same question was posted just a few days ago in the projects section I believe.
This is the Savage 308 FT/R, different stock, Talley 20 moa base, Burris extra high, NF 12-42 x 56. High would have been better.

I think the tall rings would do it.Look at how much clearance is under his nightforce to the barrel.

Yes, high or tall would be better. I will be changing. It makes the cheekpiece very high and in turn believe the added leverage of the high cheekpiece is not good on keeping the rifle "squared up" when you rest your cheek on it. Like a lever torquing the rifle to the side...

I will measure the Talley bases...

I run highs with my Savage PTA and 12-42X NF on an EGW 20 MOA rail. There ain't much clearance but it clears. I have an adjustable cheek piece so even with the extra highs I probably could still reach it but I sure like the looks of the highs.

Thanks again for the replies. I talked to a gentleman yesterday who was using the EGW 20 moa rail and EGW .990 rings. I decided to go that route, I will let you know when it shows up and is all put together.

well, the egw rings look to be about 2 months out... :'( I'm going to need more recommendations. I'm looking for both, rings and a 20 moa base. Preferably in stock somewhere. Would like to keep the total under $200. Help me!

Please,
Rob

Midway has these in stock

And a set of Burris Zee rings and you are under $150.

Agreed on the signature Z-rings. They will give you extra adjustment if you get the extra insert kit, and they will take all the stress off your scope. Also, they will not leave marks on your scope. They are my first choice every time.

I have the rail on hold (pending the rings, which are backordered) with EGW. Rings are the unknown

Are the burris Signature z-rings that awesome? Which height?

The base broncman sent you a link to are for a long action. If you have a 12FTR it's a short action. You make the call.

Yes the Burris Signature Zee rings are that awesome. I just had a custom 600 yard benchrest rifle built that was over $7,500 and it has Burris Signature Zee rings. But if you're questioning the advice you sought, pick whatever you want.

The "which height" question is what you started this thread with. See the picture of the red stocked rifle above? Those are extra highs. The difference between high and extra high is nearly 0.3". Again, you make the call.

You said you were looking for the base and the rings. Now you've got the base on hold. Folks are willing to help you but it would be nice if it wasn't a moving target.

The target only moved because the rings I decided on are out ( backordered) 2 months I have not canceled my order yet, so they are still holding the base for me. I dont want to wait that long for rings. Just doing my due diligence, so I only have to cry once. The picture above is misleading , to me. I cant even see the barrel, the stock is in the way and I have no idea how high the base sits.

I'm not trying to make it difficult.
