Savage 12 F/TR in a .308 how does it shoot

What kind of group will it shoot at 600 yards out of the box, they say from factory it will do 0 to 1 inch at 100 thats pretty big spread, I would like more info on it , thanks

One of my 12Fs (I have two) in 6BR is shooting .7-.9, 5 shots at 300 yards with Sierra 107.

The best group I have seen from my F/TR is .317 for 5 shots @ 100 but it wouldn't do that consistently.

I've recently run some Tubb Final Finish and it seems to be shooting more consistently but I haven't adjusted my load yet and therefore have not shot for groups - just used ammo I had already loaded for a match. I bet it's consistently under 1/2 minute now, even with my known-slow load.

what i meant how did you come up with .317 what do use to measure and how from center or end of each hole I have a target from yesterday 3 shot that a dime will cover but I can never get a 5 shot with my gun a FNAR

Use a caliper and measure from outside to outside of the two farthest holes, then subtract bullet diameter. Take a look at the attached image. The hole in upper right and the lower hole define the group. The software used to measure this target calculated the center-to-center distance between them at .709". Measuring as described above will accomplish exactly the same thing.

that is nice that was 300 yard? at.709 was that with .308, I will measure my target with calipers, okay it was.760 then minus .308 =.452 at 100

That target was shot with a 12F in 6mm BR. I also have a 30" McGowen .308 barrel for it that shoots about the same as the 6BR.

If that group was measured outside-to-outside with calipers, it would be .952. When we subtract the bullet diameter of .243, we get .709.
