Savage 12 F 6BR

I will be picking up a Savage 12 F Class in 6 Norma BR Tuesday I will only be shooting it from a bench at 100-300 yards. No competition just for fun and to make myself a better shooter and advance my reloading skills.

I have a EWG Rail and 30mm rings w/the 1" inserts. I have a 6.5x20 Leupold and a 36x Leupold BR that I can borrow off different rifles until I figure out what scope I want to get for it (most likely one of the NightForce BR's)

I have a Caldwell Lead Sled FCX that I use for my deer rifles and muzzle loaders but thats not going to work for this. So I am in need of some sort of front rest and rear bag. I was thinking of getting the Cowan if its readily available or does anyone have a better suggestion in a mid priced front rest?
Are there any rear bags out now that work well with the Savage stock or will I need to have one made? I assume any 3" front bag will work?

Just my opinions

Start with the 36X scope.

The Cowan generally cannot be considered "readily available" ;D
Last I heard the waiting list is over a year and growing. Could be wrong but thats the last info I had.
The Cowan is a decent rest. A tad light for the Sav F-Class IMO. Mostly thats the fault of The Sav stock design not the rests fault. The fast twist barrel and high profile forearm can exhibit "twist" in the bags.
I've seen this with the 6.5X284. The 6BR should be much tamer.

The 12 "F" class rifle has a weird back section and needs a custom bag to fit it. Protektor makes a special bag for them. I sell protektor items, and the reasons why are: one, because they are top notch, and second, they dont break the bank.

I just ordered the Doctor Mid ear in Cordura, they said it will ship out in a couple days. Great friendly service at Protektor.
Also looking at the Sinclair Competition Shooting Rest (BR) $599, is there anything on that order but a little less money? I really don't need fire control since I am just shooting short range and no competition.

I would think that the Gen II All-Purpose or the rest should be more than adequate for the ranges that you intent to shoot. If you don't need windage adjustment (but I would strongly suggest it) it is a fair deal and fine rest. There are others, but this is what I am familiar with myself.

Not trying to talk you out of the nicer rest, but some of the better shooters here that have tried the newer and more expensive rest had some issues with the units. I am sure that Sinclair is or has looked at these issues, but it is something to consider before spending extra. You might also look for a good used rest here and on other forums.

I am delighted with my Shadetree rest top... Mate with the base of your choice. I used the base from my Caldwell Rock BR. If the base is too high I have seen people use it upside down. I mostly use the rest for F-class so it works for me, but on the bench I can see how people would find the Caldwell base too high.

I have a Protektor rear bag for mine. They made it in Cordura with 5 lines of stitching and fits the Savage wide butt stock great.
