Should I be looking for a large shank barrel or will it take a small shank?

Large needs to stay large. Small needs to stay small. Whichever yours is (mfg. date switched from small to large) needs to stay as-is.

Muleman if it is a PTA or a LRP it is in all likelihood a large shank barrel, also should have a red blade trigger and a 5/8th long barrel nut ( 7/8th is small shank). All other model 12/112 are small , not sure about magnums because some are large and some are small.

Look at the nut length like froggy said, it will let you know. 5/8 = Large Shank, 7/8 = Small Shank.
