Savage 110 Storm in .223 To Range Rifle?

I have the subject rifle and would like to replace its factory sporter barrel with a heavier contour or varmint barrel. I know it’ll be light, but it would just be for a fun range rifle out to 500. Question revolves around barrel clearance with the stock. Would I have enough room for it to be free floating?

When I have this question, I bust out my calipers or even a small steel ruler and measure the stock. Then I look at schematics from the barrel manufacturer I plan on buying from. Should get you close to knowing. What is the diameter of your barrel at the end of the stock where they meet?

My last savage would not have had enough plastic left to truly clear the 223 barrel I put on it. I thought about some heat to mold it, but just went with a boyds instead. There's only so much you can open up a thin profile savage factory stock.

I’ve got an inquiry into Boyd’s to see if they have an At One stock that might work with the 110 action and a heavy barrel. It’s not Tikka smooth but actually Ok. Just want to get some use out of it that I’m not getting right now.

Nothing to say that the factory barrel won't be accurate out of the box.
My Stevens 200 in 7mm-08 got the following.
Chamber reamed to 7mm-08AI.
Action bedded in the factory Tupperware stock.
Light weight Bondo in the forestock for stiffness.
EGW 20MOA one piece base bedded to the action with Green Loctite.

I put about 6,000 (yes) rounds down the tube before I shot my first F-Open match (600 yards) with it. Was the last hurrah for the barrel.

How did it do?
First time shooting 600 yards.
First time shooting prone.
First time shooting (3) 20 round strings.
