Savage 110 HEAVY trigger and bolt lift

Striper Slayer

Silver $$ Contributor
Hello!
I have a Savage model 10 that the trigger pull is very heavy. I have tried 3 different accutriggers in it and currently have a target trigger (orange blade) installed. Pull is still about15lbs. I have tried 2 different sears also. Also of note is the bolt lift is very heavy.
Anybody got any ideas what else to try to lighten it up? I am thinking it must be something inthe bolt itself, but cleaning and lubing that have made no difference.
Thanks for the help!

So the bolt lift is the 'Achilles Heel' of Savage actions. There are threads on here concerning working on that with reports of mixed results. Search Savage Bolt Lift and you'll get a lot to look through.
As far as a 15lb trigger...... something rotten in Denmark. I'd suspect incorrect assembly or hugely incorrect adjustments. You'll have to elaborate for help with that.
For instance, how are you changing sears and what were the sources?

I have a bolt lift kit ordered. I guess we will see if that helps. I got the second sear from Gun Shack. (BBR style) I have tried every way I can find to adjust it and it just doesn't want to work!

The Jard trigger will go to 7oz my 110 has one, I have the Grimstod Desh System also it all works pretty smooth

The sear on the factory Target Trigger with the Red Blade is only found on rifles with the Top Bolt Release. The sear on all BBR rifles are not the same as the Target sear. You can go to Savage Shooter to confirm if you like. The Target sear for the Red Blade, Top Bolt Release, used a different angle to engage the trigger.

The Bottom Bolt Release Accutrigger's will never adjust down to the level of the Target Trigger because they cannot use the Target sear.

Make sure the safety is 100% disengaged.

Sure. The screw repeatedly drifting in and engaging the safety during a string of fire was *totally* operator error.

Calling the company and having some hick tell me to "squarsh dat lil screw wit a pair of vise grips to booger up dem threads sose it don't turn so easy" left me... less than impressed. Took that turd off my gun and sold it ASAP.

Ever hear of Loktite?

Ever hear of Loktite?

Gee, no, never

Didn't hold. Repeatedly.

Tried both clear nail polish (initially, because it's a *tiny* screw), and blue 242. When I got to the point of considering red Loctite, I called the trigger manufacturer. And as mentioned, after that phone conversation, decided to sell it rather than try to continue trying to fix what shouldn't have been a problem to begin with.
