Savage 110 E 223

Found an older Savage 110 E 223 yesterday for $400.00 and decided to buy it. It is in excellent condition and only has a couple of small marks on the stock. I was able to shoot it before buying and it held a little over one inch group with some of my 55 grain loads. It is built on a long action with a divider wall in the Mag well which is something new for me. I would appreciate any info I can obtain on this gun. I did a little reading and believe it may have a 1 in 14 twist barrel. It has an old Tasco 3x9 scope that I will need to replace. I wish there was a way to determine its age. Anybody own one or have any info.

Thats how they used to do it back in the day. Everything used to be based off of one action size and depending on the cartridge got the appropriate bolt face, bolt baffle and mag spacer. Nice basic little action that will probably shoot fantastic with a little work. The nice thing about them is you can basically turn that rifle into any caliber you want with the simple change out of a few parts.

I have an early one like this and replacing the stock was difficult because the spacing on the stock/action screws was uncommon. mine is now a 204r and shoots great. sometimes single shot feeding is an issue, but you get used to it.
All Long Actions = 5.062" (1958 to present, staggered and center-feed magazines)
1st. Gen Short Actions = 4.522" (1959 to 1987, staggered feed magazine)
2nd Gen Short Actions = 4.275" (1998 to 2007, staggered feed magazine)
3rd Gen Short Actions = 4.400" (2005 and up, center-feed magazine, not in photo)
3rd Gen Palma/Dual-Port = 3.440" (2009 and up, single-shot only)
Axis/Edge = 4.800" (2008-present; spacing same for long or short action cartridges)

One thing I noticed was that ejection of spent cartridge is kind of weak but other than that it shoots really well. Always wanted a nice 223 bolt gun and this one should work out well.

here's some serial number prefix info on savage. also ejector problems are pretty easy to fix. there's a lot of info and parts available on the web at many places.
