Savage 11 trophy predator or Remington 700sps?

Some of you know I traded my son my savage trophy predator for a 700ls I'm getting built into a custom 6slr . well I hate not having a 22-250 so I'm going to trade in a CZ 527 varmint. in 17 Rem that I never shoot for either a Savage 11 trophy preditor , or a Remington 700SPS can anyone with first hand knowledge tell me what they thought about build quality accuracy & the Xmarks trigger I'm not familiar enough with remington to know how it compares.

Thanks

If your wanting a target gun,i'd look seriously at Savage precision target action in a single shot.RBLP,LBRP,or RBLPRE. I really enjoy my RBLP 22 BR. Accu-trigger is not so bad either. Many stocks available.

This will be a carry rifle, with getting the custom gun built this has got to be as close to an even swap as possible. Nothing exotic

I'v been reading a lot of reviews for the remington and I think I'm starting to lean pretty far towards the Savage 11. but still listening to experiences

Seriously, If you're going to keep it 100% factory, go to a gun shop and throw each one up to your shoulder, see how that feels and then try the trigger. IMHO, factory rifles, Savage and Remington anyway, are crap shoots.

The X Pro trigger is junk in my opinion. I believe you can replace them with a Timmey for about $150. If you go for a Remington, take an empty unfire case and check the extractor before you buy. I've seen a bunch of new Rem's with faulty extractors at the range.

I have four Rem 700's and three Rem 7's all older models. They have been excellent. I'm just not sure about the recent vintage one I've seen at the range.

Yes I'm planning on keeping it 100% stock at least until the barrel needs replaced. I'll be disappointed I'd this savage doesn't shoot as well as the one I traded to my son

A year ago a buddy of mine bought a remmy 700 243 and wanted me to put a load together. He is a tight ass so everything cheap. I took my time and broke the barrel in properly and within fifty rounds it was starting to clean up really nice. So long story short he called me the other day all excited and says dude I just hit a rock at 1200yds. That being said a factory Remington will shoot real good. Savages factory barrels require a good break in also. Savage triggers are better. Remington x-mark triggers suck monkey balls. I'm a die hard Remington guy but savages are good factory guns to if you put the time in em. Both good choices. Good luck.

I just picked up a cheap adl 243 new for $325 for a beat around gun. I wasn't expecting much from it honestly but have been suprised. Half moa out to 200 with factory Hornady ammo, haven't shot it past that yet . I will work up a load when i get time, its not target grade but not bad for the price and intended purpose.

I went to the gun shop to look at the 700 I liked the longer barrel bt I didn't like the trigger at all I ordered the Savage it will be in next week. now to decide if I want to leave the barrel and action black or have it cerakoted fde to kind of match the camo stock a little

I own 3 Remington 700s, 1 from 1978, 1 from 1991 and an SPS VS stainless from 2013. Not a problem with any of them.

The SPS is a .22-250. Brand new it shot 3/4" groups with the xpro trigger and the lousy stock. The trigger broke at 5.5 lbs, I managed to get it down to just under 5 lbs. So, it was replaced with a Timney and adjusted to 2 lbs. I can't fault Remington on a lousy trigger after what they have gone through.

The SPS stock isn't the best as it isn't free floated. It gave 3/4" groups but occasionally there was one shot that went wider. I blame that on the stock and trigger.

The rifle now has a B&C Medalist stock and Timney trigger. It will shoot 1/2" groups all day long.

I've owned 2 Savage rifles, a 10fp in .223 and a 12VSS in .22-250. The 10fp was extremely accurate but couldn't be depended on to get the next round in the chamber 30% of the time. Tried for 2 years to get the feed problem taken care of and eventually gave up and sold it.

The 12VSS would string shots as the barrel warmed up. Couldn't stand this from a heavy barrel rifle that wasn't cheap. Tried for about 6 months to remedy the stringing but gave up and sold it.

Anything you buy is a crap shoot, but I'll take my chances with Remington.

Yeah I have similar experiences except Savage has alwayssome came out on top. Imy starting to think it's a Ford vs Chevy it's all in what you have good experincentives with.

My savage came in Friday but I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet with the end of rifle season and now snow all day today

I know it's neither, but why not a tikka t3? They actually have an accuracy guarantee. A sweet action to boot, and a great trigger.

Nothing at all against Tikka but with me having a custom 6 Dasher built I was trying to stay away from $800+ rifles. I ended up getting the Savage as an even trade for my CZ527 and I sold the scope for $100. Plus $75 rebate, it's like I was paid to get the Savage. I really loved the way my last savage 11 trophy predator shot or I would have probably looked around more for a different rifle

Well keep us posted how it does. I was late. I hear nothing but good stuff about savage rifles, but I have never pulled the plug and purchased one. Maybe I need to just do it,
