Savage 10T-sr or Savage 12FV in 6.5 Creedmore?

i'm shoping for a 6.5 Creedmore for varmits and target work. i'm looking at these two and asking for some input on accuracy. I like the Savage 10T-SR and the Savage 12FV. the price difference isn't important, I'm wondering which is the more accurate shooter in the 6.5 Creedmore cal. are there other guns I should consider in this price range?

If you plan on keeping the factory stock the 10T-SR would have slightly better out of the box accuracy potential due to the stock. The 10T-SR comes with the accustock which is much better than the plain plastic stock of the 12FV. If you are going to change out the stock, then its probably a toss up.

I have no experience with Savages 5r rifling. If the SR's 5r rifling is manufactured to the same standards as their regular barrels.. then it will be total luck of the draw. Some factory savage barrels shoot exceptionally well, some shoot horrible, and most are decent.

At $419 or less when on sale, the 12FV is hard to beat at that price level.

I can't speak for the 10T-SR, I do have the 12FV however and in the factory hollow stock it's terribly muzzle heavy. Mine shot well even with a crown that looked like they broached the rifling after they machined the target crown. I could catch my fingernail on the rifling. Filled the stock with plumber's putty and mitigated the muzzle heaviness somewhat. Rented a crowning tool and fixed the crown because I couldn't stand looking at the poor machining anymore. Still shot well so I didn't hurt it any. Has the non removable internal magazine.

I have a 12FV with over 2700 rounds through the barrel now. It still shoots 1/2 MOA even with the throat/rifling eroded .130 now. I filled the forward lower part of my stock with auto fiberglass flox mix, (chopped fiberglass) to stiffen it up when it was new. Trigger is great at one lb, lock the adjustment spring with a touch of blue locktite and it will not move. (a common complaint) I shoot long rang out to 1500 yards and that long 26 inch barrel just works. I wish the barrel was 28 though, just for long range. A good gun, Cabelas had it on sale last week for 379.00 I almost bought another, kept waiting for Savage to throw in their discount like last year but it hasn't happened yet. Even at 420 it's a heck of a deal.

thanks for the input. I've been shopping a lot for dealers that carry
the 10T-SR and i'm starting to see that it's a Cabelas/Savage creation only
available only thru Cabelas. does anyone know where else I might find one?

Correct, both the 10t-SR and the 12FV are cabelas "packages". You can also get them at Bass Pro since Bass Pro now owns Cabelas. Those are you're only two options.

Either one will do the job however you may want to check the bolt lift and timing after you pull the trigger.
The last model 10 I looked at had way better timing than my model 12.
Luck of the draw maybe but if I can't choose other wise I'm going with timing and bolt lift.
Just me of course

On a good day, you'll pay half as much for the 12fv than the 10t. Enough of a difference to change stock and still have money in your pocket.

If the FV has the same stock as the FVSS plan on replacing it. Several years ago I bought a 22-250 in a FVSS, after epoxying a carbon arrow shaft in the fore end it still flexed at the action lug. I replaced the stock with a Stockade Elk Stalker and haven't looked back. Having said that with the price on the FV at times one can afford to put it in a decent stock.
