Just saw a Savage 10 BAS in a gun store today. WOW!!! I am not into the AR15/Assault Rifle/Tactical scene but this rifle is a beauty.
Over the past few years the .50 BMG and .338 Lapua have been "fad" items with civilian shooters on the Canadian Army ranges and even then not allowed on most ranges. We stick them 10 positions down during a practise because of the muzzle brakes. The concussion, flying dust and beheaded grasshoppers are a tad distracting to the TR and F shooters.
The number of .50 and .338 shooters has dwindled recently because of the toll on human body parts and cost of ammo. I will stick my neck out and predict that the Savage 10 BAS has the platform that these guys seem to like and will replace the larger calibers on the practise line. The .308 can be shot for sustained periods without resulting in distorted clavicles and detached retinas.
Hell, we even allow the .308 with muzzle brakes to shoot in our F Class practise squads. I just close my bolt when one of them touches off to keep the wings, legs and grass seeds out of my action. They cannot compete in DCRA F Class competitions because of the muzzle brakes but we are all brothers and sisters in arms and more power to them.
