Savage 10/110 stealth evolution in 6.5 creedmoor

I bought one about two month ago.Great rifle all the way.Shoots fantastic and getting 0.047 five shoot groups at 100 meter consistently. That using factory Hornady 140 grain ELD match. Now working up loads for it now.I have five different ones load for testing.I'm using H4350 in all my loads and using Hornady brass.Winchester LR primers.Brass trimmed to 1.910.Started with Sierra MK BTHP 140 grain bullet with 38.5.Then loaded ten more at 40.3.Still using Sierra 140 grain bullet. But then the problem started.OAL was 2.810.Would not work at all.It was hitting the rifling.Had to take it down to a OAL length of 2.730.Then it work great. Now went to the Hornady ELD match 140 grain bullets. With three different loads.Started at 38.5 (10) 39.0 (10) 40.0 (10) OAL was 2.800.Work great.Thought I would share this with yull.In case you tryed using Sierra MK BTHP 140 grain bullets.

So the bullet is engaging the rifiling, what is the problem? You just find accuracy you have been missing.

I just worked up a load for my new 6.5 CM X-Caliber barrel. Shot the 142 SMK's over 38.5 gr H4350 for great groups and good accuracy out to 700 yds. furtherest I have access to right now.

The 140's work really well at 41.5 gr. They printed a half minute higher at 300 yds as compared to the 142's but the 142's shot flatter at 700 yds. even with a lighter charge.

If you are getting groups under 0.05 moa consistently, I'd say run whatever the heck OAL works and produces that. That's a stupendous result.

Perhaps you meant closer to 0.5 moa?

Some Savage chambers don't have long freebore and bullets with long bearing surface will stick in the rifling when loaded long.

It's fairly common with some Savage rifles.

Bullet ogive's make a big difference when dealing with factory throating on some brands of rifles. It also is common in the Creedmoor chamberings, I can't explain it, it just is. The archives here is full of this type of topic and information.
