I was a moderator there for a while. Can’t say exactly what happened but here’s what it looked like to me: the originator of the site lost interest. His brother handled the nuts and bolts but didn’t have a passion for the subject matter. The site became essentially self-moderating. Eventually it was more hassle than it was worth and the site was shut down.Does anyone have the story on Saubier? It always seemed to have the traffic to sustain itself. I think the problem is that the demographic is getting too old. Older folks have the money to spend in the ever increasing costs and hassles associated with the shooting sports. I saw the same thing happen in R/C aircraft. The younger people were forced out by the cost. The participants just kept getting older and older.
Like Matt, I've made some long time friends through Saubier. Jim was a very busy guy. When he got promoted to head of Sitka Waterfowl out in Bozeman, he was traveling a lot. His brother like to hunt with hawks and I think made a trip out West every year. We had 2 Saubier prairie dog hunt. Gary W organized the first in Grand Island and Dave Moore organized the 2nd at Whitetail Lodge in Wyo. Here in Md 4 of us ( Charlie S, Doc Ed , John M and myself) put on a Small Caliber Shoot. We shot 100, 200 and 300 yd targets. At the end of the day everyone attending got a free pulled pork dinner. It was our way to pay back Jim a little for the great site he provided. He never wanted money. I was happy for the Saubier brothers that they got to take their Dad, Leo, out west for dogs before he passed from ALS. The site had a great run, I'll always be thankful to Jim for providing it.Thanks for the link 426nut, twas a great site back in the day. I have made life long friends there and enjoyed that site in its heyday. I really enjoyed going to the Saubier shoots too, glad I made the effort and pushed for the time off of work so I could go. Very thankful for the Small Stuff section here and the fellas that still show up from those days gone by.I've almost felt a little bit untrue to my nature as I've been shooting my .220 Swift lately and realizing it's time to dust off my trusty old 17Mach1v and the 17HeBee again.

Personally I dont think this had anything to do with it, IMHO it was like Tommie said just look at how much time the boss here says he has to spend.Older folks have the money to spend in the ever increasing costs and hassles associated with the shooting sports.
