Sandpoint Idaho

Be prepared to live in snow for at least 3 or 4 months each winter, then if there's less than that, it's a light winter.

This thread might have some value to you.

I live 70 miles from the Canadian Border in NW Mt. North Idaho is much the same.
Winters are long and cold with compound ice on many roads for months at a time. One thing we learn, is how to shop for tires ..

Our family place is outside of Naples, Idaho. Great grandparents moved there in 1908, from the Willamette Valley in Oregon. So, you see, even then, people were choosing North Idaho over Oregon. My grandpa said it was because his old man couldn't stand the prosperity. Well, they didn't have to worry about that too much in north Idaho.
My stepfather referred to the area as "Little Appalachia". Probably not far off the mark since most of my family were originally Virgina and Kentucky hill people. There were a lot of double first cousins in the area at that time. This may be the only good thing about the influx of Californians; they add a little depth to the gene pool. WH

Congratulations bpd459! The Priest River area is a spectacular. Been thru there a good few times in
summer/fall. Can't comment on Winter though! Best of luck to you! Joe

I have met a few people from Sanpoint in the past, but they were in Belize for their winter! lol

Sorry to see you go John, but I'm excited for your next adventure! I think deep creek in Missoula might be your best bet for long range.
Thanks Jeff. It will be a huge change. I’ve lived in a 10mile radius for 52yrs and the other 9 were in the military and living in Bellingham. Wife starts work on 5-19 and the house closes on 6-18. A definite adventure!

Thank you Praveen! I haven’t shot the Spokane range in years. It’s 90min away. No different than going to Cascade…
Praveen just told me about this.

Congratulations John! So Priest River is only about an hour from Spokane and the range we shoot F Class on is on the west side of Spokane. As far as the area, I owned property just west of Blanchard on the Washington side for nearly 40 years. My Father and my mother retired on separate 5 acres parcels of that land within rifle shot of each other (a story for another time). When they gave them up I sold it off. I love the area. I've thought about Priest River myself. I have friends who have places up Priest Lake so I'm up there with some frequency. Lot of beautiful places from Priest River North to the lake and all the way to Sandpoint. Sandpoint is now California north and overrun but still a lot of nice places west and north of there. East of Sandpoint, like the Hope area, has been over run with Hollywood and big money types but it is nice as well. Give me a call if you have questions.

There's a range south of Cheney- rock lake rifle range. It goes out to just shy of a mile. Never shot there drive by nearly every day. Little of a drive but it's there.

Forgot about that one. I've heard good things about it but have never shot at it. I've driven by it on the way to the sporting clay range on the west side of Rock Lake. Long drive but I need to get down there one of these days. Also Mica. Steel out to 1000 yards. Mica is open every day at 2 PM in the afternoon.

It was good talking to you John. Give a shout when things settle down a bit.

P.S. PM me your email address and I'll get you on the Spokane and Missoula F Class email lists.
