Sako M995 split stock

I am posting for my brother-in-law. He aquired a Sako M995 in Lapua 338. The factory wood stock is split from the recoil cross lug. He wants to re-stock it in a Manners carbon fibre stock. I was wondering if anyone has ever installed a recoil lug like a Remington to get away from the cross bolt/lug thing. Maybe this is a bad idea.
thoughts are appreciated. Also, can anyone recomend a good "stalker" in the midwest?
If done, what about the magazine & bottom metal?

Thanks,
Edward Scartezina

You absolutely can use a Remington-style recoil lug. Your gunsmith can cut back the tenon to match and inlet for it.

Watercam is right. It's been done a lot. Dusty Stevens does it that way but he's on "hiatus".

Gap used to do a lot of them the front end of the action tapers down and they cut off the taper to make room fro the recoil lug. Mine was a TRGS and had a plastic stock I cut out the trigger guard and mag well from the factory stock and put it in a McMillan stock. The TRGS and the TRG22 both had synthetic stocks. I was unaware of a M995 built with a wood stock.
