Safety question

hey guys my rifle was converted from a 22br to a 6.5x47l it has a custom trigger which has no safety or bolt stop mechanism in it. It has a plunger style bolt stop installed on the left side of the receiver. It's majority of use will be single loaded but I also will have occasions I want to use it a a repeater and use the internal mag. Prob is where the bolt stop is on receiver is too far forward which means the bolt doesn't cycle back far enough to chamber the rounds properly from the mag. My options are to take it to someone to redrill and tap the plunger bolt stop which I don't want to do as it will leave a hole on the side. My question is for the occasions I use it as a repeater will it Be safe to use with the plunger stop removed?? I don't know if that is an extra safety feature of some sort to stop a bolt going through your face?? I realise using the bolt with no stop is a bit of an inconvenience having to make sure it doesn't come right out on the ground or in your face. Thanks

The fix will depend on how much the stroke has to be increased for the bolt to strip rounds from the magazine. You might be able to modify the bolt but if you have to move the pin the old hole can be plugged.
If you use the gun without the stop you are more likely to drop it in the mud than to have it blown back in your face. If you are in a hurry it is easy to pull the bolt out which will mess up that quick second shot.

Don't hate me BUT.....:) .......if the gun is set up for hunting, or if it has an adjustable cheekpiece, or if you're willing and able to use a slip-on/stick-on type cheekpiece, or even tape something to the stock it's sometimes possible to make a bolt-stop on the stock.

There is no safety issue with removing the bolt-stop from the action. It's not there to keep the bolt off your face in the event of catastrophe.

thanks guys at least I know its not there for safety, I will have a think about both options but I like the idea of alinwa taping something to the stock or a temporary type bolt stop to be used only when its used as a repeater I will have to get creative. Thanks
