Saddle bag on 17 lb gun

"Light Gun (LG). Guns shooting in the Light Gun class must weigh 17 pounds or less, inclusive of bolt, scope, diopters, muzzle brake, and any attached equipment."
May be a dumb question, but placing a saddle bag across the top of the butt stock, to add weight, be within LR rules? It isn't really attached.

"17 pounds or less". If you want to add weight for gun handling reasons, most add weight in the butt stock. Unless the rules have changed, the IBS Long Range Competition rules do not address specific stock dimensions like they do for Short Range Group and Score Competition.
I believe if you want to add weight externally it would have to be attached just for the sake of getting shots downrange quickly and unencumbered, and maintaining tune. I have seen bag riders attached to LR stock bottoms- mostly to aid in guiding the rifle.

If the weight of the rifle "as fired" is over 17 lbs., you should be DQ'd.
On the other hand, I would think that something draped over the comb would probably not behave the same shot to shot. This could wreck accuracy. Kind of like if you had sticky bag surfaces or different shoulder contact or any number of gun handling issues.
Just my two cents....

I think you'll find most shooting disciplines would consider something draped over the rifle when it is fired to be part of the rifle's weight, even though the object is not physically attached to the rifle. That would fall under the part of the rule that describes anything attached to, or that would be lifted up with the rifle as it was picked up. In F-Class for example, a towel or clear plastic rain guard that is draped over the rifle is still included in the total weight. It makes sense in that the weight of the object will be a part of the total rifle weight when the trigger is pulled. You might get away it at some venues, but that would likely depend on the line official.

When you remove the gun from the bags, it must be transported to the scale the way you shot it. Saddle bag included. You can pull down on it with your hands, press your cheek into as hard as you can, hell you can sit on it if you like, but additional items attached or touching other than your body parts must be weighed with the gun.

Really. Obviously you don’t shoot competitively. Do you relate to sarcasm?
Well, you are wrong on both counts, Poindexter. :p:p

The opening post didn't have any hint of sarcasm that I could read, and I speak fluent sarcasm. I have seen several questions of this kind over my years in F-T/R and the posters were dead serious. People are always looking for a way to bend the spirit of the rules in F Class. It looks like bench rest is the same way, like any rule bound competitive game.

If it WAS sarcasm, and only the OP can verify that, then I stand corrected. If it wasn't, then you owe me an apology. ;)

Words do mean something. What does "attached" mean.

Definition of attached:

1: connected or joined to something.

I stated in my original post, it was a dumb question, not being sarcastic, just food for thought.
my gun already weighs in at 16# 14 oz., but still front heavy. Maybe something I could do to shoot in heavy gun, without any problems. Sheesh, lighten up guys.
